Her poetry has also been
published in the Dasoku, A
Journal of Arts and Letters and
chapbooks from the Kaji Aso
Studio,where she studied the
art of Zen Conversation as a
way of developing and
deepening her work.  She has
been fortunate to study with a
number of gifted instructors
such as Jeanne Gray, Julie
Stevens, Kate Finnegan, Skip
Lawrence and Michael Bales
who imparted not only  a love of
craft but also the sense of
freedom and spontaneity
necessary to artistic creation.  
Her philosophy of art as
exploration, expression and
connection informs her work as
teacher and facilitator.
Madeline is committed not
only to her personal art but to
the larger art community.  She
has been Secretary of the
Hyde Park Art Association
since 2001 and is currently in
the process of developing a
therapeutic writing workshop
using art to explore the

After the loss of her
husband of 40 years,
Madeline LaFarge,a career
nurse and mother of five
began painting watercolors
and composing poetry and
prose.  Her chapbook,
“Oreos Are For Breakfast”,
represents the beginning of
her use of language as a
tool for self-discovery and
expression.She is currently
working on a memoir.  
Madeline’s paintings have
been in several galleries
and art shows.  Her
watercolor “Fantasy”, was
awarded First Prize at the
Hyde Park Art Association's
2002 Annual Spring Exhibit at Boston City Hall.
